Acne Paper Issue 10 /For the Party People, By the Party People

Thurs, June 3, 2010 Acne partied in the name of partying, which, as their 10th, "legendary parties"-themed Issue proves, is totally reason enough! The fete was held the Carlyle, New York’s ever-present host to some of the Upper East Side’s most famous minglers, as mused upon by several contributors in this issue of Acne Paper. Guests took to the Royal Suite to toast to the swanky Swedes, and did exactly what the issue praises: creative friends getting together to let ideas fly with the generous help of cocktails.

The Acne Paper

Each issue of Acne Paper is created around one key idea - a timeless theme that in various ways touches all those working in the creative fields regardless of age, cultural background or social status. In an eclectic yet coherent mix of portrait, fashion and art photography as well as interviews, memoirs and prose the editorial narrative aims to unite artistic minds of all generations. It pays tribute to past luminaries whilst still keeping a firm grip on the present, evoking something timeless, something nostalgic yet refreshingly modern. By moving effortlessly between high and popular culture Acne Paper is a glamorous and intelligent magazine celebrating personality, authenticity and style.
Acne Paper is published twice a year by ACNE and is a collaboration between Acne jean, Acne film, Acne digital and Acne Creative.

Twisted inside out by Steffan Brüggeman

“When I was asked to do a t-shirt for Acne, I used the t-shirt not as a two-dimensional surface where you insert an image or illustration, but instead as a three-dimensional entity that has an inside, an outside, a front and a back. I played with the concept of ‘reversed inverted’ and used two prints: the text piece “SOMETIMES I THINK SOMETIMES I DON’T” and a silver brushstroke. The t-shirt was printed on the inside and outside so that the prints can be seen through the cloth. I created a t-shirt that can be worn on any side so there is no right or wrong way to wear it.”tion

Steffan Brüggeman

The first artist in the series is Steffan Brüggeman who lives and works between London and Mexico City. His work combines a conceptual practice with a rough and critical attitude that questions its inner activity at the same time as it reflects on our sociological context. Though the artist mainly works with text, using vinyl and neon as its supports, he explores a wide range of media, creating large-scale installation pieces, videos, paintings and drawings. The artist has had recent solo exhibitions at Kunsthalle Bern, Switzerland; FRAC Bougogne, Dijon and Kunsthalle Lissabon, Portugal. Stefan has also participated in prominent group shows at the MCA Chicago; Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt; Centre D’Art Contemporian, Geneve and Lismore Castle Arts, Ireland. He is currently preparing for a solo exhibition at Galician Contemporary Art Centre [CGAC], Santiago de Compostela, Spain and a group show at the Museu Serralves, Porto, Portugal.

white art / t-shirt project

Acne are pleased to announce the first collaboration in the White art / T-shirt project series. Over the course of the initiative, Acne will collaborate with four established working artists and ask them to re-interpret the classic white t-shirt. The resulting t-shirt design will be sold as a limited edition and accompanied by a numbered edition card signed by the artist.
All proceeds from the sale of the t-shirts will go towards a newly established fund helping emerging artists to produce a first monograph – a critical study of their work.
